When ABC cancelled their hit country music drama Nashville, the show's stars and fans everywhere were completely shocked. After a huge social media campaign using the hashtag "#BringBackNashville", CMT listened and picked up the series for its fifth season.
With a new network, the show hired new writers and new showrunners, and have promised more music and more in-depth storylines. Season 5 premiered on Thursday (Jan. 5) and it did not disappoint fans, and according to TVLine, the ratings didn't either!
TVLine reports that Nashville "amassed a 0.8 demo rating across three airings on CMT, Encore and Nick @ Nite," with a total of 2 million viewers. This may be down from the Season 4 finale on ABC which had 4.2 million viewers, but this showing is CMT's best since the show Redneck Island premiered in 2012.
On CMT alone, the show scored a 0.5 demo rating, which almost triples the network's primetime average. We'd say it was a successful premiere!
