After being cancelled by ABC, it looked like the stars of the television series Nashville had their final curtain call. But thanks to the devotion of the show's fans, it was brought back for a fifth season by CMT, and the new season is set to debut on January 5th.
The cast has already started table reads for the season, and many of the fans' favorite stars, including Lennon & Maisy and Charles Esten, are returning. With the start of the new season, the show is also adding some new characters as well.
Country singer Rhiannon Giddens recently announced her addition to the cast as a recurring character named Hanna Lee "Hallie" Jordan, who CMT describes as "a young social worker who turns out to have the voice of an angel."
But Giddens isn't the only new addition to the cast. Sounds Like Nashville reports that the show has put out a casting call for a new character who will have a main role on the show.
The character, named Clay, is described as "a 21-26 year-old African American male who is looking to become a major player in Music City." The role sheet elaborated further on what Clay's personality will be like, and where he draws his musical inspiration from:
"He is a creative, self-aware, highly motivated young man who suffers intense mood swings, but is nonetheless charming and outgoing. His musical style is eclectic, with modern elements but also nods to roots black music, bluegrass, and even classic country."
The show is hopeful that the addition of a new main character will help rejuvenate fans' interest in the show. Also, the show feels that a new character will help bring the show closer to its musical roots from earlier seasons.
We can't wait to see who Nashville ends up casting as Clay! Can you think of anyone that would be good for the role?
