The cast list for the Coat of Many Colors sequel is shaping up!
Last year, NBC released Dolly Parton‘s Coat of Many Colors, a TV film based on her upbringing in rural Tennessee. The film was a smash hit, and now Dolly and NBC are planning a holiday-themed sequel called Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, which is set for release this December.
The film continues to tell heartwarming stories from Dolly’s childhood, including the time her father made a huge sacrifice to buy her mother the wedding ring he was never able to afford. Dolly’s musical journey is also explored in the film, after an important person comes into her life and realizes she has the talent to make it in country music.
Filming for the movie will start in July, and many of the original cast members are set to return. Alyvia Alyn Lind will reprise her role as Dolly, while Jennifer Nettles is also returning to continue her part as Dolly’s mother, Avie Lee.
But one cast member who is not returning for the sequel is young actress Carson Meyer, who played the oldest Parton sibling Willadeene. Now, 20-year-old actress and Disney star Kelli Berglund will be taking on the role of Dolly’s big sister, according to Variety.
Kelli first found her claim to fame playing the character Bree Davenport on Disney XD’s Lab Rats and its spinoff series, Lab Rats: Elite Force. She continued her work with Disney through the 2014 Disney Channel Original Movie, How to Build a Better Boy.

As Willadeene, Kelli will serve as a caretaker to her many younger siblings. In order to help her mother, Willadeene left school to raise her brothers and sisters. Completely devoted to her family, Willadeene is the “Angel on Earth” to her parents and siblings.
Kelli is taking on an important role in the Coat of Many Colors sequel, but we’re sure she’ll do fine! We know you can’t wait to see the film when it debuts in December, but in the meantime, enjoy watching the trailer to the original film.
