Scotty McCreery got the surprise of a lifetime Friday night (January 27). Forty-five minutes before taking the stage for his first concert of 2017, McCreery received an unannounced visit from country legend Randy Travis

McCreery recalled his shock and excitement in a Facebook post.

“My tour manager says, ‘Hey, Scotty come here,’ so I walk up to the front of the bus, look out the window, and who is standing outside my door?! RANDY TRAVIS!!! He, his wife Mary and his family decided to ride over to the show and surprise me! Got to visit with them for a while before the show, and then they all sat on the side of the stage and watched the whole show!” McCreery writes.

McCreery also wrote that Randy’s appearance at the show was “a God Thing.” The American Idol champ and his band worked up Travis’s hit “Forever and Ever, Amen” five year ago, but never played it live….until now. Friday night’s concert was the first time McCreery had ever performed the song live and it happened in front of Randy Travis.

McCreery called it “one of the coolest moments of my career to date…..singing that song live, and looking over to my right and seeing him smiling ear to ear, dancing, and singing along w/ us!”
