Country music icon Randy Travis and his wife Mary sat down with Life Today for an interview that not only revisited the singer's heartbreaking health dilemma, but addressed his current strides and significant progress.
Host Randy Robinson addressed his viewers by revisiting Travis' 2013 stroke, prompting the singer's wife Mary to admit, "It all started with [what] they thought was pneumonia, which turned out to be not pneumonia." It seems that diagnosis was a secondary result of Viral Cardiomyopathy in which the singer's heart was penetrated by a viral infection.
Mary revealed that, at one point during his health battle, Travis flatlined, ultimately leading doctors to inform the wife to "pull the plug" on her husband who they believed would never make a recovery. However, Mary firmly believed that Travis had more than enough fight to continue through his new chapter, standing by her man as they endured daily therapy, long hospital stays, and the ups and downs of progress and endurance.
Yet, despite the singer's incredible strides, Mary admits that the couple still have quite a ways to go as they prepare for more improvements and, in time, the strength for Travis to begin his musical career once again. "I know that he wants to be back on that stage and singing. He wants to write music again. I know there's a thousand songs rolling around in that brain," she smiled and she motioned over to her husband. Travis agreed, answering "Yes," throughout Mary's answer.
It's only a matter of time until this household name takes his place back on stage along with new tunes and stories. Be sure to keep the country star in your prayers as he continues on to an admirable recovery.
