You would have a tough time trying to name a more iconic country duo than Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn. Something magical happened whenever the two country legends shared the stage or a recording booth. Throughout their time as a duo, Twitty and Lynn brought us some of the greatest duets in history, such as “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” and “After the Fire is Gone.”

In total, Twitty and Lynn released 11 studio albums together and 13 singles. Their last album, Making Believe, was named after the song of the same title, which has been a country music staple for decades.

“Making Believe” was written years ago by country musician Jimmy Work. Although he recorded the song himself, his version was overshadowed by a cover recorded by Kitty Wells. Wells brought the song to the second spot on the country chart, while Work’s recording peaked at the fifth spot.

After the success of Wells’ version, other artists jumped to record “Making Believe.” Emmylou Harris took the song to the top of the chart in Canada, and also scored a Top 10 hit with it in the U.S. Other artists who have recorded the song include Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Ernest Tubb.

Twitty and Lynn were the first ones to turn “Making Believe” into a duet.” While their recording failed to chart, it was a huge hit at their concerts and live performances.

Since “Making Believe” wasn’t one of Twitty and Lynn’s popular duets, it’s hard to find footage of them performing it together. Finally, a clip of the duo singing “Making Believe” surfaced online, and it’s everything you could ever hope for.

The clip was taken from one of Twitty and Lynn’s live television performances of the song in 1987. Standing close to one another, Lynn and Twitty couldn’t seem to wipe the smiles off of their faces as they sang. Your hearts will melt at the end when you see Twitty wrap his arm around Lynn in a sweet embrace.

This is a rare treat that we’re sure y’all will enjoy. Everything about this performance is pure perfection! Be sure to check it out in the video below.

It’s clear how much Twitty and Lynn cared about each other. With such a strong bond, it’s no wonder why they made such a great team on stage. We’re sure Lynn must miss Twitty so much, because we certainly do. May he rest in peace.
