On Friday night (June 17), NASCAR driver Mike Wallace was looking forward to spending time with his family and friends at a Rascal Flatts concert in Charlotte, North Carolina. But Mike never expected the disastrous turn his night would take.

While leaving the venue, Mike reportedly stopped to talk to a group of three men. Suddenly, one of the men moved forward and attacked Mike, as his brother and racer/analyst Kenny Wallace recalled. “Mike was knocked out completely cold. While he was on the ground they continued to beat him, kicking him in the face.

Mike’s daughter, Lindsay Wallace Van Wingerden, stepped in harm’s way to try and protect her father from the men. Lindsay was treated for unspecific injuries at the hospital, while Kenny said that Mike received 12 stitches in his mouth, had a dislodged tooth, and was experiencing vision problems.

After being released from the hospital, Mike commented on the attack on Facebook, writing, I want to thank my family and friends for helping to protect me from a worse beating as I layed (sic) unconscious on the ground.

Apparently, this is not the first time the men have gotten into an altercation at the venue, but the third. The men were arrested and charged with simple assault and are set to appear in court on July 22.

After hearing the news about Mike’s assault, Rascal Flatts issued a statement on their Facebook page. They wrote they were “saddened” to hear the news and also expressed their hopes for him and Lindsay to make full recoveries.

We echo the sentiments expressed by Rascal Flatts and continue to pray for Mike and Lindsay’s quick and complete recoveries.
