Rory Feek Brings Capitol Hill Audience To Tears With Joey’s Story

Wednesday, June 22, Rory Feek took his late wife Joey’s story to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Feek was invited by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization to participate in a screening and panel discussion of the new PBS documentary, Being Mortal.

According to the NHPCO’s website, the event was “designed to educate Members of Congress, congressional staff, policymakers and other stakeholders about  the challenges the health care delivery system has serving individuals with advance and life-limiting illness and their families.”

During the event, several members of Congress shared their personal stories related to hospice and the end-of-life experience prior to a panel discussion featuring Rory Feek and the author of the book that inspired the PBS documentary,

Following the panel discussion, Rory Feek shared a special preview of his upcoming documentary called “To Joey, with Love.” According to those in attendance, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

Joey Feek passed away earlier this year after a courageous battle with cancer. During the last two years of her life, Rory recorded hundreds of hours of video footage. At the time he didn’t know why he felt a need to capture every moment. Just months after her death, Rory knew that he wanted to share these intimate videos.

With the help of some friends, Rory has put together a full-length film following Joey’s cancer journey.

“Most people know Joey and I for the five months we spent in Indiana – the beautiful, terrible days and weeks last fall and winter that we intimately shared through my blog posts. They got to see Joey die. To see her face death bravely and pass to the other side with honor,” Rory wrote. “But I’d like for people to have the chance to see my wife live. To see the incredible woman that she was before the doctors said there was nothing more they could do… so they can better understand the amazing impact she’s had on me and everyone around her after she learned that the end was coming.”

“To Joey, with Love” will be in theaters for one night only on September 20. For more information, click here. Watch the trailer for “To Joey, with Love” below.
