Scotty McCreery's journey with his new single, "Five More Minutes," stretches all the way back to 2015. Scotty sat down to write the song just two weeks after his grandfather passed away in January 2015. Over a year later, he debuted it for the first time during his set at the Grand Ole Opry.
The video from that performance went viral, and was viewed by millions. As Scotty told Country Rebel, the response was incredible to witness "A lot of folks are responding to this," he said. "And that's what you hope for, when you're doing what I do you just want to touch people, and inspire people."
Two years after he wrote it, "Five More Minutes" is finally a single. Scotty officially released the song on Friday (May 5), but before he did, he knew he had to play it for a special person in his life.
Scotty shared a heartwarming photo of him and his sister, Ashley, visiting their grandmother Janet in the hospital. The photo shows Janet relaxing in a chair and holding a phone in her hand, while Scotty and Ashley stand behind her. It's clear from the smiles on their faces that they were watching something that made them happy.
As Scotty revealed to Rare Country, that "something" was actually an early edit of his music video for "Five More Minutes."
"That was nice just to catch up with her and say hey," he said. "It brought a smile to her face...She's been in a lot of pain, so it's nice to see her laugh and smile. That brought a lot of joy to me."
Scotty wrote in the caption to his photo that he had to make sure "Five More Minutes" was "grandma approved" before he released it. Based on her reaction in the photo, we'd say it has her seal of approval!
Just like Scotty, you should share "Five More Minutes" with the special people in your life. Be sure to download a copy of the song here so you can do just that!
