Scotty’s Song That Changed It All

Two weeks after his grandfather passed away in January 2015, Scotty McCreery teamed up with Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell to write a new song. Inspired by all of the fond memories McCreery had of his grandfather, the trio ended up writing a song that we now know as “Five More Minutes.”

McCreery debuted “Five More Minutes” during an emotional performance at the Grand Ole Opry in June 2016. The Opry’s video of the performance went viral, and generated millions of views despite the fact that “Five More Minutes” was receiving no radio airplay and wasn’t even an official single.

That all changed on May 5, 2017, when McCreery was finally able to release “Five More Minutes.” The song claimed the second spot on the iTunes country chart immediately following its release, and eventually became McCreery’s first number one hit.

Bringing The Emotions To Life

Things came full circle when McCreery finally released the music video for “Five More Minutes.” The sentimental video is dedicated to both of McCreery’s grandfathers, and captures the relationship that he shared with them.

Most of the video is comprised of old home movies, including ones from way back when McCreery was a baby. These clips make it clear just how close McCreery is to his family, especially his grandfather that “Five More Minutes” pays homage to. McCreery’s grandfather was there for every important moment in his life, from his childhood Christmas gatherings to high school baseball games.

The video also takes a moment to capture the relationship shared between McCreery and his now-wife, Gabi. As McCreery sings about kissing a girl he loves, an old elementary school photo pops up that shows both him and Gabi. That photo is followed by another of the couple in later years, which is then followed by a video from a more recent vacation.

A Video That Will Touch Your Heart

Like the song itself, the music video for “Five More Minutes” perfectly captures the precious moments in McCreery’s life. Although parts of it may be sad, it ends up leaving you with a happy feeling as you remember the influential people, places, and moments in your own life. That’s exactly what McCreery had hoped for “Five More Minutes.”

It might be sad thinking back to it, but I just hope folks remember that when they are thinking back to it, it’s because it’s the good times, the good memories that you wish you could go back to,” he told Country Rebel.
