One of the most iconic men in music and a world-renowned guitar legend was honored in an unexpected way during a recent tour stop by hard rock band, Guns N' Roses.
Appearing in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on Wednesday, August 30th, Guns N' Roses' lead singer, Axl Rose, spoke openly with the audience mid-concert.
"We're gonna play something we've never played before," He said solemnly to the sweeping crowd. "And it might not be your thing, but - we're just trying to pay tribute to someone....it's not what you think."
You can hear the audience shouting "What is it?" and other suggestions for what song they think the classic rock band is about to cover. For the duration of their Not in This Lifetime Tour, Guns N' Roses have been adding some well-thought-out covers into the midst of their massive 180-minute performances, and this was another stunning choice.
Without further pause, the band kicks right into this surprise cover of Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman" - and with every single strum of the guitar, it brought memories flooding back!
Axl Rose was a bit ahead of the beat, but for the first time performing this, it was an epic cover that honored a man all of the band members hold in very high regard. Rose's vibrato and power can be heard through his long-held notes and lingering phrases.
At the end of this unexpected country cover, Rose says something so simple, but profoundly powerful: "For Glen."
