Throughout her career, Shania Twain has sold more than 85 million albums. She is the best-selling female artist in country music history, and one of the best-selling artists of any genre ever. All this, and she hasn't released a new studio album since 2002.
Twain's last studio release was the Diamond-certified Up!, which contains songs such as "Forever and For Always," "She's Not Just a Pretty Face," and "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" Since then, Twain has participated in a Vegas residency and a massive "farewell" tour, has offered no word of when fans could expect a new record from her.
Over the course of the past year, Twain started hinting at the fact that she would have new music ready soon. But she still offered no definite confirmation. That is, until now.
On Wednesday (October 19), Twain was honored as the first female recipient of the Artist of a Lifetime award at the CMT Artists of the Year special, which airs on Thursday (October 20).
Speaking to Rolling Stone Country at the event, Twain confirmed the one thing that fans have been waiting to hear since 2002. New music is on the way!
"I have new music coming out really soon, and I'm very excited about it," she said. "There will be a new musical chapter."
At age 51, Twain says that she already feels like she's lived three lifetimes, since she's been involved in the music business for 44 years. And Twain doesn't plan to stop any time soon.
"I love music, and I hope that it carries on for many more years in my life," she said.
We can't wait to hear Twain's new music, but in the meantime, enjoy listening to one of her old hits, "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!"
