Country music duo Sugarland teamed up with pop singer Adele for perhaps one of the most sensational and riveting crossover duets the Grammys has ever seen! The 2009 performance was kicked off with country singers Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush opening the number with their heartbreaking hit “Stay”. The song, capturing the essence of loving and desperately trying to keep a cheating man, served as a powerful opener for the highly coveted event.

It was a fresh-faced Adele that soon stole the spotlight with her youthful glow and equally as crippling song “Chasing Pavements”, snagging her introduction from the country duo and making her musical entrance. The vocal powerhouse mesmerized her crowd with her explosive talent and unbelievable voice control, sending the audience in cheers as they admired her remarkable performance.

Soon, Nettles vibrantly joined Adele in song, as their voices coincided beautifully with various riffs and uncanny harmonies. As the performance neared its end, the vocalists shared a wondrous moment of the song’s final lyrics and embraced in a post performance hug.
