Baseball Player Saves American Flag From Protestors Attempting To Burn It On Field

Tensions ran high at a riveting baseball game when two trespassers charged the field in hopes of spreading a bold, and incredibly disrespectful, message.

Two protestors, a man named William Thomas and his 11-year-old son, raced to the grass in the outfield during the bottom of the 4th inning of an April 25, 1976 baseball game between the LA Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs game at the famed Dodger Stadium.

Thomas put an American flag on the grass and dowsed it with lighter fluid. After acting alone at first, his son joined in on his despicable efforts. You can see him reach in his shirt pocket for matches, which were giving him a bit of trouble.

The boy’s issue with the matches gave Cubs outfielder Rick Monday the perfect opportunity to run and snatch the flag away from them, who never even saw him coming! The crowd went wild for Monday’s quick save!

“I think that guy was gonna set fire to the American flag. Can you imagine that?” the commentator spoke as he watched the live encounter.

During Monday’s next at bat, the crowd rose to their feet, giving the center fielder a standing ovation as the stadium’s scoreboard read, “Rick Monday…you made a great play.”
