Beyoncé Becomes The First Black Woman to Top Billboard’s Country Chart

Beyoncé just made history by becoming the first Black woman to top the Hot Country Songs chart.

Her recently-released single “Texas Hold ‘Em” shot straight to the number one spot, within just a seven-day count, knocking off Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves’ long-reigning duet, “I Remember Everything,” which previously sat at No.1 on the chart for 20 weeks.

Beyoncé Makes History With “Texas Hold ‘Em”

“Texas Hold ‘Em,” a track inspired by her hometown of Houston, Texas, has been streamed over an impressive 19.2 million times and counting, according to PEOPLE. This accomplishment makes Beyoncé only the second solo female artist to debut a song straight in at number one. Taylor Swift was the first to pull off this achievement in 2021 with her re-recordings of “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” and “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version.)”

But Beyoncé’s achievement with the song doesn’t stop there. She is now the first woman ever to lead both the Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts since the charts began in 1958. Only Ray Charles, Billy Ray Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and Morgan Wallen have accomplished this as well.

The success of “16 Carriages” hasn’t fallen too far behind “Texas Hold ‘Em,” debuting at No. 9 on the Hot Country Songs chart and kicked off its journey on the Hot 100 chart at No. 38. Since its release, “16 Carriages” has amassed an impressive 10.3 million streams, received airplay on 90,000 radio stations, and sold 14,000 copies.

At the same time, she announced that she will be releasing her first-ever country album, which will be released on March 29.
