Brian Kelley’s New Song Hints At Tension With Former Florida Georgia Line Bandmate Tyler Hubbard

Following the release of his latest single, “Kiss My Boots,” on March 6, Brian Kelley has stirred speculation among fans with pointed lyrics seemingly directed at his former Florida Georgia Line bandmate, Tyler Hubbard.

In the music video, Kelley is depicted hunting a snake, a common symbol for deceit, while the closing shot features him slicing a Georgia peach, along with a close-up of his belt inscribed with “Florida,” representing his former role as the “Florida” half of Florida Georgia Line, with Tyler Hubbard symbolizing “Georgia.”

“Want the world to know that you did me wrong /
I don’t know how you act sweet, after how you did me /
Here’s a middle finger to you through a song.”

Brian Kelley hasn’t explicitly stated that his new song is about Tyler Hubbard or the breakup of Florida Georgia Line.

Personal Inspiration

Kelley did say that a few years ago, when things got tough and confusing for the artist, he turned to his mental health coach for advice. The coach advised him to just sit tight and watch how things played out.

So, he did just that, taking a step back to process his feelings. Now, he’s turned those emotions into his latest song. According to Kelley, it’s time for everyone to grab some popcorn and see what happens next.

“My mental health coach told me a couple years ago as I was navigating through an extremely difficult, hurtful, and confusing time, ‘The person with the highest emotional intelligence has the highest responsibility.’ So, as hard as it was in those moments to take the high road, I took her advice, and I sat back and ‘ate my popcorn.’ Everyone processes differently. I went inward. And it all came out in a song. Now it’s time for y’all to get your popcorn.”

Kelley recently said it was “healing” getting to write the track.

“Everyone processes things differently. I went inward. I went to work and stayed busy. I’m proud of myself for doing it that way. It was worth it,” he stated in a press release. “Now I have a song that helped me through a tough time. Hopefully, ‘Kiss My Boots’ can help a lot of people. Give them some confidence and help them get their power back.”

Hubbard’s Response

In response, Hubbard brushed off the rumored drama, stating to Holler that he’s too focused on his own career to pay it any attention.

“Just like I’ve always said, I’m happy for BK, this is what he wanted and this is what he initiated, and I hope he’s happy and that he’s doing his thing and I’m doing my thing,” he told the outlet. “I wish him the best, and yeah, as far as that’s concerned that’s about all I have to say about it.”

It’s reassuring to see both Kelley and Hubbard moving forward independently, without any apparent bad blood between them. We wish each of them the best in their respective journeys!
