Jason Aldean Has A Message For Haters Of His New Marriage

People have had a lot of opinions of country music star Jason Aldean’s relationship with 2012 American Idol contestant and former NBA dancer Brittany Kerr after compromising photos of them were leaked and went rampant on the internet. Still married to high school sweetheart Jessica Ussery at the time, Aldean later tweeted an apology.

“The truth is that I screwed up,” he stated on his Twitter. “I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar.”

Seven months after the incident, Aldean filed for divorce in April 2013 and began dating Kerr shortly after making their first public appearance at the 2014 CMT awards. The couple married in March of 2015 last year and haven’t seemed to be able to shake “the haters” since.

“People are very opinionated about things they’re not really aware of,” the 39-year-old singer told PEOPLE. “But at the same time I’m not going to spend all my time defending myself. I am what I am. People that know me or know my situation, they actually know.”

Aldean says he’s as happy as he’s ever been in his new marriage and his music as a result has never been better, even having his new wife star alongside him in his latest music video for “A Little More Summertime.”

“On this album, instead of focusing on all that other stuff that was going on for so long, everything is good and it made a world of difference for me,” Aldean says in regards to his latest album, They Don’t Know. “Anytime you’re in a place where you can relax and when you’re happy, that’s going to make everything else better.”
