Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins, are one of the hottest couples in country music right now. After Thomas wrote and released his hit song, "Die a Happy Man," which was inspired by Lauren, the world ended up falling in love with her as much as Thomas has. Now, they're falling in love with her all over again after Thomas released his latest single, "Star of the Show," which was also inspired by her.
The couple has been married since October 12, 2012, but have known one another much longer. They met in the first grade, and were best friends for years before romance finally blossomed between them.
As fans have gotten the chance to know Lauren through social media, it's quickly become clear why Thomas is crazy for her. Lauren went to school to become a nurse, and she uses the skills she learned to help others around the world.
Every few months or so, Lauren travels to places such as Haiti and Africa to help provide medical care to the orphans in those places. She makes these trips in connection with 147 Million Orphans, an organization that "impacts the lives of children affected by the orphan crisis by providing for their basic needs. The provision of food, water and medicine in the name of Jesus Christ."
Thomas has always promoted 147 Million Orphans' cause and Lauren's work with them. But for the first time ever he hosted a full-scale charity concert to help raise money for the organization. The concert took place on Tuesday (October 4), and featured performers Florida Georgia Line, Dierks Bentley, and of course, Thomas.
"This event was spurred by Lauren’s heart and 147 Million Orphans' heart and by how much they love those kids," Thomas told People. In total, Thomas and Lauren helped raise $250,000 for 147 Million Orphans.
But Thomas and Lauren may be ready to help make a huge impact on the life of one orphan in particular. As they revealed at the event, they are considering the possibility of adoption, and have been since before they got married.
"My mother is adopted — I’ve been a product of that," Lauren said. "If that’s how the Lord wants to design our family, we’ll roll with it. We definitely want kids."
We think Thomas and Lauren would make great parents, don't you? Knowing how much they love each other, we know that any child that comes into their lives will be showered with affection.
