A beloved Latin teacher by the name of Ben Ellis passed away on Friday following a difficult battle with esophageal cancer. Ellis’ story became front page news following a moving video of his students at Nashville’s Presbyterian Academy serenading him went viral after being shared to country singer Tim McGraw’s Instagram account the week prior.
“Ben Ellis is a Nashville area high school teacher battling cancer,” McGraw writes. “The entire student body drove to his house to worship with him. Our thoughts and Prayers are with him and his family…So precious and kind.”
The video features over 400 students and faculty singing worship songs outside his Nashville home and has received over 20 million views. The powerful video has moved people across the nation as well as Ellis himself.
“I felt unity, I’m not alone. Joy. Peace. I also felt very loved; I already felt loved by God, but it was extra meaningful that God poured his love out to me through 500 people who loved me so well,” Ellis wrote in regards to video.
Following the saddening news that the teacher – beloved now by millions – had passed away, McGraw once again took to Instagram to pay his respects to Ellis and send his condolences to his loved ones.
It goes to show how one small act of kindness can have such a large impact on someone’s life, even at the end of it. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ben Ellis and his loved ones during this difficult time.
