In one of the most emotional Battle Rounds to take place on Season 12 of NBC’s The Voice, an emotional Gwen Stefani is nearly brought to tears following the moving duet of “Dancing on My Own” between contestants Hunter Plake and Jack Cassidy gunning to maintain their spot on Team Alicia Keys.

In a slowed down rendition of Calum Scott’s hit, the pair traded off singing the powerful lyrics that tell the heart-wrenching pain of unrequited love. The team members ended the performance with a triumphant hug before going on to explain to the coaches that they have developed an unbreakable bond over the course of the season.

“He’s my best friend,” Jack told Keys about his fellow team member. “Jack is an awesome guy,” Hunter responded.

Now Gwen’s crying! We need her makeup people to come out,” said Carson Daley after the two contestants had their emotional exchange.

Stefani revealed that she just didn’t expect the two shared such an emotional bond between them and was taken by surprise by it all. After weighing all her options and taking the opinions given by her fellow coaches into consideration, Keys had a difficult decision to make.

The 15-time Grammy Award winner made the decision to have Jack continue on her team. However, fans of Hunter don’t need to say goodbye because he has his choice of coaches after being stolen by both Stefani and coach Adam Levine
