Whenever you go to a Travis Tritt concert, you know you’re going to get one of the best live shows you’ve ever seen. He leaves everything he has on stage and is usually drenched in sweat by the end of his set.

During his filmed concert at the historic Tivoli Theater in downtown Chatanooga in 2002 which was sold as a DVD called Live & Kickin’, he brought the crowd to their feet when they heard the musical introduction to one of his most beloved songs, “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive.”

Every time the camera cut to the audience, every single person was singing every lyric with the long-haired country singer.

“It’s A Great Day To Be Alive” was originally written by Darrell Scott and recorded by Jon Randall in the late 1990s for his album of the same name. For reasons we don’t know, his album and his version of the song were never released.

Country-rock group The Sky Kings, which consisted of Bill Lloyd, Rusty Young, and John Cowan, recorded their version around 1996, but didn’t release it until 2000 on their compilation album From Out Of The Blue.

The song didn’t become a huge hit until Tritt released his version in December 2000 as the second single from his album Down the Road I Go. It peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
