AOL Sessions/Scotty McCreery
In 2014, American Idol winner Scotty McCreery and his roommates were robbed at gunpoint by three men. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. May 5, 2014 while McCreery and his friends were watching a movie at their Raleigh, North Carolina, apartment.
McCreery recalled the incident in his recently released book, “Go Big or Go Home.” The singer wrote that one of his friends thought that a knock at the door was that of a neighbor. After opening the door, robbers armed with two pistols and an AK-47 assault rifle entered the apartment. One man held the assault rifle against the sternum of the man who opened the door. One of the other robbers held a pistol to McCreery’s head and against the head of another man in the apartment.
The suspects took off with wallets, cellphones, money, and a laptop after forcing McCreery and his friends into a closet.
One of the suspects was identified through forensic evidence and is set to appear in court later this week. Mikkail Jamal Shaw, 21, is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and second-degree kidnapping. The other two suspects have yet to be identified.
Shaw’s trial is set to start this with with jury selection beginning today (June 27). It is unclear at this time if McCreery will be taking the stand during the trial.
