Waylon Jennings & Hank Jr. Pay Homage To Hank Williams With ‘Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way’ Duet

It doesn’t get any better than seeing two country legends share the stage.

For a very special episode of Nashville Now, a popular talk show that focused on country music, Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams Jr. made an appearance together to perform the hit song “Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way.”

The song was originally released as a single by Jennings in August 1975 and was included on his album Dreaming My Dreams. It became the country outlaw’s fourth number one single on the charts as a solo artist.

He wrote it as an homage to the influence the late, great Hank Williams had on country music, and criticizes the new, glitzy era that was emerging in the 1970s. He references “rhinestone suits and new shiny cars,” which were becoming extremely popular during that time.

On a couple occasions, Jennings turns this song into a duet with Williams’ own son. No one knows more about the legacy he left more thank Hank Jr., who started off his career emulating his father.

Their performance was rockin’ from the first strum of their guitars to the very last! Hank Jr. appropriately changed the lyrics from “Singing my songs, one of his now and then” to “Singin’ all of Daddy’s songs and one of mine now and then“.
