Cody Johnson is getting ready to release new music, and for the first time, he’s stepping into the rock side of things.

Cody Johnson has officially returned to the stage after taking a few months off to recover from emergency surgery. Fans may remember that at the end of last year, he ruptured his eardrum due to a severe upper respiratory and sinus infection.

Now, he’s back and isn’t taking things slow. He’s already begun his 2026 tour, with shows lined up from February through September in America, and recently added even more dates for the United Kingdom in October and November.

Obviously, Johnson has an incredibly busy year ahead of him. Because of this, fans are starting to wonder when he’ll ever find the time to get back in the studio and release new music.

The last time fans got a full-length project from Johnson was back in 2024 when he dropped the deluxe version of his album Leather. Thankfully, it doesn’t sound like fans will have to wait too much longer.

During a recent appearance on Katie Neal’s Katie & Company podcast, the “‘Til You Can’t” singer shared that he’s currently working on something special.

He also teased a few major collaborations that are in the works.

“Me and Luke Combs cut one together. We finally got that done,” Johnson shared. “Brothers Osborne, that was kind of a last-minute deal. I heard the song, and I was like, ‘This sounds like John and TJ.’ They happened to be reaching out at the same time. [They said], ‘Hey, when we do our next project, would you do this song with us?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, absolutely. Would you do this with me on my project?’ So it was kind of a trade-off.”

And that isn’t all of it either. Apparently, Johnson has even more collaborations up his sleeve, but the singer said right now, “it’s still just a lot of cellphone conversations.”

Cody Johnson Teases A New Project With One Of His “Rock Idol”

Not only can fans expect several exciting new collaborations from Johnson in the near future, but they’ll also see him dabble in a completely new genre for the first time.

In an interview with 102.5 The Bull’s Spencer Graves, he shared that he’s recording a rock project with one of his all-time favorite rockstars.

Talking about how he and his band’s musical influences have shifted over the years, Johnson said:

“Over the years, we’ve had more rock influence, and I do have a pretty hardcore rock background of what I love too. At this point in my career, it’s really fun to get to do a Gospel song with CeCe Winans. Or like I did this week in Nashville, go record a rock project with one of my rock idols, you know, the guys that I always looked up to.”

If you’re wondering who the rock icon is, Johnson sadly didn’t give that detail away just yet.

But with the way he’s been talking about new music and life back on the road, it seems like he’s more inspired than ever and ready to share something new soon!
