In June, Country Star Conner Smith Was Involved In A Vehicle Accident That Resulted In A Pedestrian Being Struck And Killed
On Sunday, June 8, 24-year-old Conner Smith was driving a Chevy Silverado in Nashville when he struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street.
Law enforcement confirmed that Smith had failed to yield the right of way but was not impaired at the time of the accident.
The victim was later identified as 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins. She was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.
Following the accident, Smith was not arrested. A few weeks later, his attorney confirmed that the singer had been charged with a misdemeanor for “failure to yield the right of way resulting in death.”
The charge is considered a Class A misdemeanor and is classified as a traffic violation, not a criminal offense.
Conner Released His First Statement Following The Fatal Accident
Smith canceled multiple shows after the tragic incident and remained silent for about a month.
He eventually broke his silence by posting a statement online. In it, he shared his grief for the victim and her family. A portion of the statement read:
“Not a day has gone by that I haven’t grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms. Dobbins and her family. My heart is broken in a way I’ve never experienced, and I still struggle to fully process the weight of it all.”

The “I Hate Alabama” Singer Makes His Return To The Stage
After stepping away from performing to process the accident, Conner Smith returned to the stage on Wednesday night, July 30. His first show back took place at the Grand Ole Opry.
While he was there, he didn’t shy away from what he’d been going through over the past several weeks.
Smith addressed the tragedy and spoke openly about the impact it had on him.
“The moment tragedy came, I knew that my heart had no way to process it,” Smith said, per Taste Of Country.
“I stayed isolated from the world. I spent most of my time with friends who had stopped by the house, or just me and Jesus.”
He went on to say that being back on stage felt like a fresh start after such a heartbreaking accident.
“This feels like a new beginning in every way tonight,” he said. “A restart, a second chance, an opportunity for purpose through the trials I’ve now known. My heart is filled with thankfulness because of that truth. The truth that I now get a chance to begin again, having seen the things that truly matter in life.”
