Details About The Fatal Accident

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department revealed more details about the incident in a statement.

“The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment.“ the statement read.

Worrick G. Robinson, an attorney representing Conner Smith, released a statement on his client’s behalf, saying:

“On June 8th, Mr. Smith was involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life. His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”

On July 10th, news broke that Smith received a charge for his involvement in the accident. Robinson IV confirmed the news in a statement shared with Billboard and other outlets.

“A misdemeanor state citation was issued tonight by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department to Conner Smith. Conner is incredibly grateful to the MNPD for their time and efforts to carefully investigate this tragic accident and has continued to cooperate at all times. His thoughts remain with Ms. Dobbins’ family, and he remains committed to honoring her memory with compassion by supporting efforts to improve pedestrian safety and help prevent future tragedies.”

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department issued a misdemeanor state citation to Smith. A statement on the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County website listed Smith’s charge as “Failure to Yield the Right of Way Resulting in Death,” a Class A misdemeanor. Smith will appear for booking on the citation on August 7th.

Smith Breaks His Silence

One month after the accident, on July 11th, Smith broke his silence in a statement released on social media. In it, he expressed heartbreak over Dobbins’ death and asked his followers to keep her family in their prayers.

“Not a day has gone by that I haven’t grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms. Dobbins and her family. My heart is broken in a way I’ve never experienced, and I still struggle to fully process the weight of it all. I ask that you continue to lift the Dobbins family up in prayer by name, asking for God’s peace to surround them each day,” Smith wrote.

Smith shared that he had been leaning on his faith during the unimaginable time, writing, “Through tragedy, I have learned that God is more faithful than I could have ever known before.”
