Sec. Of War Pete Hegseth Praised Craig Morgan’s Service To The Nation

“I think you have been one of the incredible highlights of our generation,” Sec. of War Pete Hegseth said of country artist Craig Morgan.

From 1982 to 1997, Morgan served in the United States Army. Nine of those years were 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions, followed by six years in the Army Reserve.

He was even deployed during the United States’ invasion of Grenada in 1983, which saw the overthrow of the People’s Revolutionary Government in an eight-day assault by U.S. forces.

In 2023, Morgan re-enlisted in the Army Reserve, being sworn in on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.

This week, on Thursday, Jan. 15, Morgan received a promotion from Hegseth, bringing him to the rank of Warrant Officer 2 in the Army Reserve.

Watch Hegseth’s Comments About Morgan’s Service

“As a soldier, we don’t get to select our leaders,” said Craig Morgan, whose full name is Craig Morgan Greer, on Jan. 15 in the Department of War. “We select our job, and sometimes they select that for us as well.”

With Sec. of War Pete Hegseth smiling, Morgan continued, “But if I had the opportunity to select a leader that I would serve under, it’s you, Sir.”

Praising Morgan’s service, Hegseth then said:

“[You’re] someone who showed the rest of the world that you can be at the highest of heights in your professional career, doing really cool things where everybody knows your name and sings your songs, and yet you want to serve your country.”

From there, Morgan was joined with his wife, Karen Greer, at his side as he took an oath. She and Hegseth then pinned Morgan’s new pins to the epaulettes of his uniform.
