About The Devastating Storm In The Lone Star State

On Sunday, July 6, President Donald Trump declared a major disaster for the state of Texas, citing “damage resulting from severe storms, straight-line winds, and flooding beginning on July 2, 2025, and continuing.”

The storms, which hit Kerr County, Texas, on July 4, saw the water levels of the Guadalupe River rise 26 feet within 45 minutes, according to state officials.

Kerr County, which is located within the Hill Country region of Texas, is part of “flash flood alley.”

As of the afternoon of Monday, July 7, the Department of Homeland Security reports that 91 people have been killed by the storm.

Most notably, 27 attendees of a children’s Christian summer camp, called Camp Mystic, are believed to have perished.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during her July 7 press conference, “The entire Trump administration is working hand in glove with state and local officials to provide every assistance available.”

Continuing, she said, “The situation on the ground remains dangerous, and there could be additional public safety threats with potential incoming heavy rain, so we encourage in the area to remain vigilant, listen to all warnings, and respond accordingly.”

Leavitt added:

“At this time, the administration’s focus will be on giving the victims in their communities the support they deserve during these recovery efforts in this tragic time. May God bless the great people of Texas, especially the parents who have lost their children. President Trump loves you, we are prating for you, and he will be traveling to see you later this week.”

Trump’s visit to the state is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 11.

Other country stars who have reacted to the flooding include Jo Dee Messina, who wrote on Instagram:

“My heart breaks for everyone involved in this tragedy. The reports coming out of Camp Mystic, alone are absolutely devastating. Honestly, I can’t think of the words to say at this moment. Please join me in praying for those affected. Pray for strength for their hearts to deal with what is in front of them.”

Randy Rogers, of the Randy Rogers Band, wrote a statement through his family foundation, saying, “The flooding across Central Texas and the Hill Country has been devastating, and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone who’s been affected. So many families are facing heartbreaking loss and uncertainty right now. I’m holding this entire community close to my heart during this incredibly difficult time.”

Josh Abbott, of the Josh Abbott Band, wrote on Instagram, “We will be planning a relief effort in the near future, as well as participating in others we are able to. It is so sudden; awe want to allow some time to grieve, process, and then plan the best possible efforts we can.”

Continuing, Josh noted, “I struggle in faith during times like this. But I pray that the parents of children gone too soon can find the strength to carry on for their other kids, and also find moments where they can be weak and mourn.”

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman replied to Josh’s post, saying, “Let me know how I can help.”

Parker McCollum shared a message from Academy Award wining actor Matthew McConaughey, who is from Texas, which states, “If you’re able, please lend a helping hand where and how you can. It’s gonna be a long road ahead, but right now the shock, the pain, and the chaos need the steady hand of a neighbor.”
