Professional Dancer Derek Hough Has Been Chosen As The Newest Host Of “Extra”
Professional ballroom dancer, Derek Hough, is officially the new host of Extra as it begins its upcoming season, premiering September 8.
Hough will be joining correspondent Terri Seymour and senior correspondent and weekend host Mona Kosar Abdi.
“The ballroom has been my stage, my home, and my launchpad. Now, I’m stepping into an exciting new spotlight as the host of Extra,” he said in a press release on Wednesday (August 13).
He will replace longtime host Billy Bush, who departed the show in May after a five-year run.
“I’m truly looking forward to collaborating with this incredible team, diving into this next creative chapter, and connecting with fans and audiences in a whole new way.”
Hough, also a choreographer and four-time Emmy winner, said it is an “honor” to join the news show.
“It’s an honor to join a show that’s been a cornerstone of entertainment news for over 30 years — and I’m ready to help lead it into a bold, fresh new era for Season 32 and beyond.”
Derek & His Wife, Hayley, Are Expecting
The Dancing with the Stars alum and his wife Hayley Erbert Hough announced in July they are expecting their first baby together.
The couple shared a sweet video on social media announcing the exciting news.
In the video, Hough walks over to his wife, and they hug while looking at the view. Hayley then turns to the camera, beaming as she holds up a strip of sonogram photos.
“We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small ♥️,” the couple captioned the video.
Derek Returns As His Role As Judge On “Dancing With The Stars”
Along with Extra, Derek will also return to his role as a judge on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars.
The show, beginning its 34th season, will premiere on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
Derek will also be joining his sister, Julianne Hough, who will be the shows co-host.
