Ella Langley Opens Up About Her Mental Health Struggles

Ella Langley isn’t going to let her past struggles define who she is.

Over the weekend, Ella Langley returned to the stage after canceling the rest of her August shows to focus on her health.

The “You Look Like You Love Me” singer had shared a statement on social media at the start of last month, saying she needed time to rest and take care of her “mind, body, and heart.”

She didn’t go into detail about what she was dealing with. However, it likely had to do with her mental health. Langley has been open about the struggles she faces before, saying that they run in her family.

Ella Langley Addresses Her Break From Performing During Her First Show Back

After taking some time off, she made her return with a show at the Worldwide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois.

During her set, Langley paused to talk to the crowd about her break from performing. She shared with them what she learned during that time.

In a video captured by a fan, the five-time ACM Award winner gave her very personal speech while introducing her song “Girl You’re Taking Home.”

“I’ve never let myself try for the plan B, because I was never going to accept that. It was going to be this or nothing else,” she began.

“Thank the Lord…dropping out of school was scary,” Langley continued. “But I believed in myself and I believed in doing the thing that I was supposed to do. Not trying for anything else. I’m so, so thankful that I did because I know I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.”

She went on to say that she’s grateful for everything she’s been through because it’s made her who she is today.

“I’m so grateful for the girl that went through those things, went through that situation. Because now, I’m the woman that I am because of her. So just know if you’re struggling with something today, God’s doing something in your life that’s gonna make you so grateful for the struggles that you went through. But in the moment, it still sucks. In the moment, it’s still not fun. In the moment, you don’t understand why.”

But over time, she’s learned not to waste her energy worrying about things she can’t control. Instead, she’s choosing to focus on her love for music instead.

“I thought I had the idea. I thought I had the plan figured out for myself, and what I learned from the situation is, I don’t have to plan at all. I just get up and do the thing that I’m supposed to do every day and that’s all I can do. But when this next song plays, and when I sing it, I let that girl come out for a second and get that emotion out, get that anger out. Get the why’s out of the way. So I can be the woman that is standing here in front of you.”

It seems Ella Langley’s break was much needed and very helpful, and we’re glad to see her back doing what she loves!
