Ella Langley’s New Song “Choosin’ Texas” Was Inspired By A Wild Story Involving Miranda Lambert & A Kangaroo
on Oct 17, 2025

Ella Langley’s new song was inspired by a wild, chaotic moment involving none other than country superstar Miranda Lambert.
On Friday, October 17, Ella Langley dropped her brand-new single titled “Choosin’ Texas.”
Fans have been waiting for this one for quite some time. She first teased the song months ago during a show in Nacogdoches, Texas.
She later played the song again during a recent show in Durant, Oklahoma. Before performing it, she gave the crowd a little insight into the track and revealed country superstar Miranda Lambert helped her write it.
In a video captured by a fan in the audience, Langley shared how she had the opportunity to work with one of her favorite artists.
“It was a year ago this month I got my first opportunity to write with her,” Langley said. “We were on one of these things called a writer’s retreat, where you take a couple of your favorite people and you just sit down for however many days and write songs. And hopefully some of them are good.”
It turns out that “Choosin’ Texas” practically wrote itself after Lambert shared a funny story about something that happened to her years ago.

At the time, Langley didn’t go into much detail about the story. But later, during a show at The Listening Room in Nashville, she revealed what Lambert had shared with her… and apparently it involves her, the police, and a kangaroo.
“She told me she had a pet kangaroo, and she was doing something, she was driving down a dirt road, and the kangaroo was in the back seat, and the dog was in the front seat. There was a lot going on,” she explained.
Langley continued, “Then she got pulled over with a kangaroo in the passenger seat. And I was like, ‘This story’s as good as I thought it would be.’ She said the lady cop pulled her over, and she’s like, ‘Of course I have Texas plates on the back of my car.’”
The idea that you could tell someone was from Texas because they were in an unusual situation got Langley thinking, and she couldn’t help but turn it into a song lyric.
“I was walking to the bathroom and I started to go, ‘She’s from Texas, I can tell by the way he’s two-steppin’ around the room.’ And Miranda was walking behind me to the bathroom, a separate one, and she was like, ‘Wait a minute! The b***h he went with, she’s from Texas, I can tell.’ The girl he went with, you know?
“And from there, I think the song fell out in about 30 minutes, and it’s one of my favorite ones we got off the retreat that weekend. And it’s my first song with Miss Miranda Lambert coming out.”

Ella Langley’s New Song Comes Shortly After She Took Time Off Due To Health Struggles
In August, Langley canceled the second half of her scheduled shows to focus on her well-being.
The “You Look Like You Love Me” singer shared the news in a statement on social media, saying she needed time to rest and take care of her “mind, body, and spirit.”
Although Langley never shared whether she was dealing with physical or mental health issues, she ended up returning to the stage about a month later.
Now, she seems more than ready to jump back in, especially since she’s treating fans to new music again.
