WWE star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently stepped out looking very different from how fans are used to seeing him.
On Monday, September 1, Johnson attended the 2025 Venice Film Festival to support his new biopic, The Smashing Machine.
The upcoming movie stars the former wrestler as mixed martial artist Mark Kerr, with Emily Blunt portraying his wife, Dawn Staples.
It’s no secret that Johnson has become a major movie star over the years, but this will be his debut in a serious drama. And he isn’t taking the role lightly.
In fact, he’s completely changed his appearance to fit the character.
“This transformation was something I was really hungry to do,” Johnson said during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I had been very fortunate to have the career that I’ve had over the years and to make the films that I’ve made, but there was just a voice inside of me, a little voice that said, ‘Well, what if I could do more — I want to do more and what does that look like?’”
When photos and videos of him surfaced online showing off his new look for the first time, they quickly went viral. Fans couldn’t believe the dramatic weight loss he has undergone.
In a video taken from an attendee of the festival, Johnson is seen stopping and smiling for the cameras. The extreme muscles and large physique he’s known for were completely slimmed down.
According to The Independent, he shed an astounding 60 pounds for the role.
