Filming Officially Underway for Part Two of ‘Yellowstone’ Season Five
on May 20, 2024
On Monday, May 20, Paramount Network announced that production has officially resumed for the second half of Season 5 of the popular Western series Yellowstone.
Filming has begun in Montana, and the new episodes are scheduled to air in November of this year. This will be the final part of the series, concluding with the much-anticipated series finale. Since the last episode of the first part of Season 5 aired in January 2023, fans have been eagerly waiting for this exciting news.
The announcement did not specify how many episodes will be in the final part or which cast members will return to close out the hit show. This leaves fans particularly curious about whether Kevin Costner will reprise his iconic role as John Dutton.

Recently, in an interview with Deadline, Costner addressed the swirling rumors about his departure and his relationship with the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan. Rumors suggested that Costner’s commitments to his “Horizon” films and potential disagreements over salary had interfered with Yellowstone’s production schedule, ultimately causing him to quit the show. However, he quickly set the record straight.
“I haven’t felt good about it the last year, what with the way they’ve talked about it. It wasn’t truthful. So now I’m talking about a little bit about what the real truth of it was,” Coster said.
“I don’t want to get down in the gutter with the “Yellowstone” thing, but what I’m telling you is straight up. I have taken a beating from those f**king guys, and I know a lot of times where it’s coming from,” he continued. “I just elected not to get into that. But if you know me well enough, I made “Yellowstone” the first priority, and to insinuate anything else would be wrong.”
“You’ve been reading one version [of what happened] for a year and a half,” he said. “I left my movie to be on time for them for [season] 5B. I left exactly when they wanted, and it made it hard on me. It turns out they didn’t have the scripts for 5B,” he revealed. “They needed four more days just to complete the first eight episodes. I left early to give them what they needed to have a complete eight, and I felt bad that the audience didn’t get 10. They didn’t have the scripts for anything else.”
Despite the ongoing drama behind the scenes, Costner has been very open about his willingness to return to close out his character if the writing meets his expectations.
“If the writing’s there and I’m happy with it, I’m open to that,” Costner said about returning to wrap up the series.
The first part of Season 5 of Yellowstone ended with eight episodes. This part included several cliffhangers, such as Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) going head-to-head and the uncertain fate of John Dutton (Kevin Costner.) With these unresolved storylines, fans can surely expect high drama in the upcoming episodes.
