For many years now, the only child of Tammy Wynette and George Jones has been working on a movie about her parents. Georgette Jones has been vocal about the project, which is a miniseries.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the miniseries was originally slated as a feature film at Fox Searchlight Pictures. In an updated news release from Paramount Network, the film is now being co-produced by Paramount Network and Spectrum Originals. The miniseries will first exclusively air for Spectrum subscribers and will later be available on Paramount Network’s streaming service.
Jessica Chastain was cast as Tammy Wynette and Michael Shannon as George Jones. Georgette celebrated the casting on Instagram in 2021.

On Friday, October 7, 2022, the very first official photos from the miniseries, which will premiere later this year, were released! Chastain and Shannon look incredible and so much like the country legends!
George & Tammy will also star Steve Zahn, Kelly McCormack, Katy Mixon, and Walton Goggins. All the actors did their own singing and worked with vocal coach Ron Browning for many months prior to filming.
“These songs, they’re pretty deep and they’ve got some dark corners in them, and we spent a lot of time with them,” Shannon told Vanity Fair. “In addition to learning how to sing them, I think they also kind of taught us about who the people were and the story we were telling.”
Songs the actors performed include “Help Me Make It Through the Night,” Jones’s “The Race Is On,” and Wynette’s “Stand by Your Man.
