Hank Williams Jr. Isn’t Afraid To Speak His Mind
Bocephus has never been one to hold back, and at a recent show, Hank Williams Jr. made it clear exactly who he includes in his “Family Tradition.”
During a recent Orange Beach, Alabama show, the singer wrapped up the night with his iconic hit “Family Tradition.” As he often does, he blended it with a personalized rendition of “If You Don’t Like Hank Williams,” adding his signature twist to the performance.
This week’s performance at The Wharf in Orange Beach featured a fiery medley from Bocephus, name-dropping a lineup of country outlaws, public figures, and rock legends. He let the crowd know that if you’re not a fan of these icons, he wasn’t fond of it.
“If you don’t like Waylon Jennings. If you don’t like Ludacris. If you don’t like Johnny Cash. If you don’t like Marshall Tucker. If you don’t like Lynyrd Skynyrd. If you don’t like Merle Haggard. If you don’t like Donald Trump. If you don’t like Hank Williams. You. Can. Kiss. All of our a**. All of our a**. All of our a**,” he said.
Bocephus’ Friendship With President Trump
In September 2024, Hank Jr. attended the Alabama Crimson Tide football game against the Georgia Bulldogs with Trump, joined in a box suite by Kid Rock.
The singer could be seen wearing a cowboy hat and seated directly next to the President.
Hank Jr. also joined Kid Rock in 2023 for his country music festival, Rock the Country.
Hank Williams Jr. And “Family Tradition”
“Family Tradition” was released in May 1979, and the song addresses the pressure Hank Jr. has faced as the son of country music legend Hank Williams Sr.
Blending Southern rock and honky-tonk, Hank Jr. has paved his own path in country music, declaring in the hit his defiance against criticism.
He shares, however, that he is incredibly proud to share his father’s name:
“I am very proud
Of my daddy’s name
Although his kind of music
And mine ain’t exactly the same.”
The song has been covered by a number of artists, including Kelly Clarkson and Miranda Lambert.
