The Kelly Clarkson Show / YouTube
Kelly Clarkson has covered many iconic songs during the “Kellyoke” segment of her talk show. She doesn’t just stick to one genre either. She covers pop, rock, and country tunes, both modern and classic.
During one episode, Clarkson offered up her take on the Eagles hit “Heartache Tonight.”
The rock band released “Heartache Tonight” in 1979. It became their last song to reach the #1 spot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.
“Heartache Tonight” later led the Eagles to a Grammy win in the Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal category.
Clarkson joins a long list of artists who have covered “Heartache Tonight” in the past, including two country music legends.
Four years after its release, the song was re-recorded by Conway Twitty. His version reached the sixth spot on the Hot Country Songs chart. Fun fact, the Osmond Brothers were the featured background vocalists on Twitty’s recording.
Then, in 1993, John Anderson released his rendition of “Heartache Tonight.” Anderson’s recording was featured on the tribute album Common Thread: The Songs of the Eagles.
Clarkson’s version of “Heartache Tonight” is sure to become a new fan-favorite. She delivered a dynamic performance, and drew many compliments from viewers:
“She slays every song and makes it her own,” wrote one person on the YouTube video of Clarkson’s performance.
Another viewer said, “My girl Kelly killing it once again! Curing my heartache tonight!”
“I wish she had time to sing that whole song. It’s one of my favorites,” said another fan.
