“Home Improvement” Movie Reboot Gets A “Yes” From Tim Allen

“I always think about it, because I still talk to everybody involved,” Tim Allen said to TVLine about the idea of bringing back his hit 90s TV show Home Improvement.

While he’s still working on his second hit TV show, Last Man Standing, Allen says that he’s open to seeing a revival of his character Tim ‘The Tool Man’ Taylor – so long as it’s a movie.

“I like the idea of doing it as a one-off, like a one-hour movie [versus a full-fledged revival series],” he explained. “I like the idea of finding out where the boys are now, and where… Tool Time would be in today’s world. I just think it’s a marvelous idea, and all the actors think it’s a great idea.”

From 1991 until the summer of 1999, America was absolutely in love with one of the most-relatable and hysterical TV families they’d ever been introduced to – The Taylors.

The Taylor family was at the center of the ABC television show Home Improvement. Starring the always-funny Tim Allen as the show’s lead,  it was based on the patriarch running a successful home improvement television show himself, and about the ups and downs of family life. Fixing stuff on TV and fixing stuff at home.

Home Improvement featured a load of actors who remained on for the duration of the show, and some of which have continued acting since the show ended in May 1999.

Naturally, since Allen is still in contact with his former co-stars, they have linked up for a few appearances here and there – including some cameos on Last Man Standing and a whole cast reunion for Entertainment Weekly.

Sadly, Earl Hindman, who played Tim’s neighbor Wilson passed away in 2003 after battling lung cancer.

“God rest him,” Allen said of Hindman’s passing.

Last Man Standing is predicted to return for a 9th season after this current one that premiered in January 2020. Because of that, Allen admits, he questioned if both characters could be relevant at the same time.

“The question I had was, ‘Is it still relevant? Is Tim Taylor relevant in the Mike Baxter world?’ Because Mike Baxter is like a real version of Tim Taylor; he’s not such a joke. And the [Outdoor Man] vlogs are like Mike’s version of Tool Time done as a web series.”

So, with the main star of the show interested in doing a reboot…do, you think it will happen?
