Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban Split After 19 Years Of Marriage

On September 30, news broke that actress Nicole Kidman was filing for divorce from country music star Keith Urban, following 19 years of marriage. Confirmed by PEOPLE, the filing came shortly after reports surfaced that the couple had quietly separated earlier this year.

Court records revealed the divorce was filed in Nashville, with the actress citing “irreconcilable differences.” The pair have agreed on custody arrangements for their two teenage daughters, Sunday Rose (age 17) and Faith (age 14) with Nicole designated as the primary residential parent. Both have reportedly waived rights to spousal and child support.

Sources close to the couple say the separation had been in motion for months, with Keith having already moved into a separate residence.

Urban Changes Song Lyrics Geared For Kidman

Urban had fans talking shortly after the news when he performed his song “The Fighter” with rising country star Maggie Baugh joining him on stage. The song was originally inspired by his relationship with Kidman.

In 2017, Urban told Billboard that its lyrics came “from a conversation my wife and I had early on in our relationship, that when things get tough, I need to hold her tighter and just try to take care of her.”

During the performance, Urban decided to change up the song.

The original lyrics are: “When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter.

Urban instead sang: “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player.”

Baugh later shared footage of the performance on her social media. She captioned the video, “Did he just say that👀.”

The Country Singer Told Fans To Stop Reading Into His Lyrics

Now, the “Somebody Like You” singer is telling fans not to read too closely into his lyrics. It all started a few weeks ago when Urban performed his classic 2002 hit “You’ll Think Of Me.”

During his show in Bristow, Virginia, Urban altered the familiar line in the chorus from:

“Take your space and take your reasons” to “Take your space and your stupid b******* reasons.”

Because of the slight change and the timing of their divorce going public, many fans speculated he was using the moment to express his feelings about the ordeal.

While touring in Nashville for the last date of his 2025 tour, Urban took a moment to address the rumors before performing the hit.

“I’ve sung like this for a long time,” Urban told the crowd. “Stop reading s*** into it.”
