Kevin Costner To Build Movie Studio in Utah
It has been confirmed that actor Kevin Costner is leading an exciting project in the stunning landscape of southern Utah.
Teaming up with a local developer, he’s spearheading the creation of Territory Film Studios, a project aimed to bring the film industry in the region to the next level. With a hefty investment of over $40 million, this studio is set to be unlike anything the area has seen before.
Situated in the city of St. George, Territory Film Studios will feature state-of-the-art facilities spread over a large area. The complex will include 70,000 square feet of advanced sound stages, 51,000 square feet of versatile production warehouses, and almost 32,000 square feet of carefully designed production offices, according to Fox Business.
Why Kevin Costner Chose Utah For The Project
Costner’s drive for this ambitious project comes from his own experiences, particularly while filming his four-part series Horizon: An American Saga. Facing difficulties in finding suitable filming locations, he recognized the potential in creating a dedicated space for cinematic projects in the area. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that this series alone boosted the local economy by $90 million, showing the significant impact of film production on the community and how drastic the new studio will uplift the southern Utah city.
With Territory Film Studios, the goal is for the complex to be more than just a studio— it will be a national attraction. Visitors can enjoy immersive experiences, like guided tours of iconic sets and a Costner-themed restaurant, adding a touch of celebrity glamour to the atmosphere. Specific details about additional tourist attractions haven’t been revealed just yet, however.
The city’s Mayor, Michele Randall, has confirmed an ambitious timeline for the major build, planning to start construction as early as the upcoming spring or summer. While the exact staffing requirements remain under discussion, the development holds significant promise for job opportunity within the local film industry, solidifying St. George’s place on the cinematic map.
