The Outspoken Rocker Dives Into Gospel Music For His Next Project

Although gospel may not be the first thing you think of when considering the rock artist Kid Rock, he announced on an episode of Real Time with Bill Maher that he is releasing his first-ever gospel album.

The singer made the announcement while sitting on a panel with Tim Ryan, Pamela Paul, and Bill Maher. Kid Rock was asked directly if he was going to create the Christ-centered new album.

He answered,

“In the early beginnings now, doing a Gospel record with my old friend Rick Rubin.”

This shocked everyone listening as Kid Rock is not known for his Christian themes. At one point during the interview he pointed out that he “is in a rock band” after all. The singer does have a point.

Bill Maher was confused by Kid Rock’s album announcement and pointed out that most of his music can not be played in a church.

The singer responded,

“You know, I know the Ten Commandments pretty well, and in those Commandments, I have never once seen or even heard of one being ‘Thou shalt not swear.’”

Kid Rock To Collaborate With Rick Rubin

Kid Rock will collaborate with Grammy Award-winning producer Rick Rubin on his new gospel album. Rubin, who is also the co-founder of Def Jam Records and American Recordings, has a legendary producing resume.

He has worked with artists such as the Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Red Hot Chili Peppers, AC/DC, Aerosmith, The Chicks, Kesha, Adele, and Lady Gaga, among others.

With Rick Rubin in the producer’s chair and Kid Rock providing the vocals, The album is bound to be impressive.

Although the singer may have never released a gospel album, some of his past music has contained Christian themes.

For example, 15 years ago, the rock star released “Amen,” a song that addresses issues of poverty, war, and race relations. The song was featured on his album, Kid Rock’s Rock n Roll Jesus.
