Kyle Larson Wins NASCAR Cup Series Race In Closest Finish In NASCAR History
on May 06, 2024
In a historic moment for NASCAR, Kyle Larson made history by winning the NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday night in what turned out to be the closest finish ever recorded.
As the race entered its tense final moments following a green-white-checkered restart, Larson strategically positioned himself alongside Chris Buescher in Turns 3 and 4 on the final lap, adding to the already high stakes.
Initially, it appeared that Buescher had secured the victory, according to the scoring monitors. However, after an official review, Larson was declared the winner by an incredibly narrow margin of just 0.001 seconds. Despite Buescher momentarily holding a slight advantage just feet from the finish line, Larson surged ahead, ultimately being declared the official winner in an exciting photo finish.

“Worked out my car turned well and was able to get some runs,” Larson said following the race. “Got through [Turns] 1 and 2 really good down the backstretch and had a big tow on Chris, and got him to kind of enter shallow, and I just committed really hard up top.
“Wasn’t quite sure if we were going to make it out the other side. I got super loose in the center, and then we’re just trying to… I’m trying not to get too far ahead of him to where he can side-draft, and then I was just trying to kill his run. It was crazy.”
“You guys got your money’s worth today, and I’m just proud to be a part of the show,” he added.
According to NASCAR, Larson’s victory marked his second win of the season, his second at Kansas Speedway, and the 25th victory of his career.
