Lindsey Vonn Fractures Her Leg In Downhill Crash
U.S. Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn revealed last Friday (February 13) that she was expected to undergo more surgeries after fracturing her left leg in a crash. The accident happened during the downhill competition at the Winter Olympics on February 8.
After being airlifted to the hospital, her teammate Breezy Johnson continued on and claimed the gold medal for Team USA.
One day after the accident, Vonn provided more details about her condition, confirming she had sustained a complicated fracture of her tibia. Although the break is stable, correcting it will involve several surgical procedures.
Vonn has been extremely transparent about her recovery, sharing multiple updates and photos from her hospital bed.

Lindsey Vonn Returns Home To The U.S.
On Tuesday (February 17), the Olympian posted that she is finally home. However, she is still unable to stand. Vonn also thanked those in Italy who took good care of her.
“Haven’t stood on my feet in over a week… been in a hospital bed immobile since my race. And although I’m not yet able to stand, being back on home soil feels amazing,” Vonn wrote on social media.
The 41-year-old shared a video of her journey getting back home, including a few ambulance rides to and from the airport.

Vonn Shares Update Post Surgery
On Friday (February 20), Vonn shared a new update with her followers. The Olympian explained that she made it through a six hour surgery that “required a lot of plates and screws to put back together.”
She posted several x-ray photos to show the extent of the metal needed to repair her fractured leg.
“With the extent of the trauma, I’ve been struggling a bit post op and have not yet been able to be discharged from the hospital just yet… almost there. Baby steps,” Vonn wrote.
Vonn also included a video of her getting wheeled around in the hospital, ending the post promising she would explain what the injury means “soon.”
