Jim And Kay Might Make You Believe In Love Again
Kayla Stipsits and her family were cleaning out her grandfather’s home when they came across something truly precious. She shared in a People exclusive the story, saying:
“I was helping my grandma with the filing cabinets, and I saw something that said, ‘Kay memories and dates.’ I opened it, and it was a ton of records. Over the years, he would write down dates. We noticed a few dates every few weeks, but that’s normal. You don’t go on as many dates.”
Here is just one page from the lifetime of memories that Grandpa Jim meticulously kept. Everything was worth documenting to him; he even recorded that they “washed and waxed” their cars.
Grandpa Jim and Grandma Kay had a lasting love. He documented their nearly 58 years together. The couple was initially married in October 1970 and got engaged after only 6 months.
Kayla Stipsits shared how her grandfather first felt when he met his love. Swoon!
“My grandpa used to tell me a story when he first met my grandma; he got very lightheaded and nervous. They helped raise me, and their house was always the place for our traditions. We had Thanksgiving and Christmas there every year, including barbecues. The love just radiates off of them.”

None Of The Family Knew
According to Kayla, none of the extended family members were aware that he had documented their entire life. She also speculated that her Grandfather kept such meticulous notes because dementia runs on that side of the family.
“My family was in awe of it. No one knew about it, and we were surprised, but we weren’t because my grandpa is so organized. We were just in shock that he even wrote that stuff down. I would have asked him questions, but he unfortunately has dementia, so we also were wondering if he wrote it down because of dementia running in that side of the family.”
Grandpa Jim did not only keep notes about his love but also about their life, including family and friends.
“When I was going through it, I recognized names. My uncles’ names are in there. Some of their best friends for 60 years were there, [who] helped raise me, too. It’s [set] in St Louis, Missouri, and I grew up here, so I was able to recognize some of the spots.”
Jim had a physical notebook where he kept these details and even took the time to type it all back up for Kay. He gave the list to his wife alongside the letter below.
“It radiates the love he had for my grandma, and the fact that he had to probably write it out and then type it all up again is just adorable.”
Jim’s last log was in 2010, when his mind began to slip due to dementia. See a more recent photo of the couple below.
Kayla Stipsits shared her final thought about their love, saying,
“One of the logs said ‘made popcorn and did laundry,’ so it’s just so precious. Because if you’re really in love with each other, you don’t have to do a lot.”
