Herd Of Elk Overtake Colorado Backyards (YouTube/ViralHog)

A video has gone viral after a massive herd of elk were spotted taking over entire backyards in one Loveland, Colorado neighborhood.

Filmed by Meagan Schrecengost, the footage showed the herd in massive numbers paused next to houses. The site was absolutely astounding.

“This morning, my daughter and I came across a large herd of elk crowding into two backyards in Loveland, taking up every bit of space,” Schrecengost told Storyful.

Each winter, large groups of elk leave the higher elevations of Rocky Mountain National Park and the Estes Valley in search of more accessible forage at lower elevations.

In December 2024, a massive herd was spotted crossing a busy interstate, stopping traffic for miles.

Colorado is home to approximately 280,000 elk, the largest population of any state. Colorado Parks and Wildlife encourage people to maintain their distance from the animal, as elk can often be unpredictable.
