Middle Tennessee Braces For Severe Winter Weather As Snow Storm Approaches: What We Know So Far
on Jan 21, 2026

Residents of Middle Tennessee have been warned about an approaching winter storm, with a winter storm watch in effect from Friday, January 23, through Sunday, January 25.
But what does that mean for the area, and how should people get ready?
It’s important to know how much snow is expected. Forecasters are predicting different amounts, with estimates ranging from 4 inches and up.
While the exact totals haven’t been confirmed, it’s safe to say that this could be more snow than the area has seen in quite a while.
A recent update from Fox 17 WZTV Nashville warned that ice could become a major concern as temperatures are expected to drop below freezing Friday night and stay low throughout the weekend.
Areas north of Interstate 40 are likely to see heavy snow mixed with freezing rain, while southern areas may experience more of a mix of snow and ice.
When Will Snow Fall Begin?
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, there’s a 20% chance of snow on Friday afternoon, but it’s not expected to stick. On Friday night, the chance of snow increases to 50%, and it could start covering the ground as temperatures drop to around 14 degrees.
The heaviest snowfall will happen throughout Saturday with a 90% chance of precipitation. This will continue into Sunday with a 40 % chance of lighter snow showers.
The storm will affect road conditions for several days, so it’s important to be prepared.
