Couple Delivers Their Daughter In An Unexpected Place
One Missouri couple has an extraordinary story to share about the birth of their child.
Unable to reach the hospital in time for the birth, they were forced to deliver their daughter in the parking lot of a Buc-ee’s gas station.
Nathan and Jena Birdsong were on their way to the hospital when it became evident that their daughter, Elaina Grace Birdsong, was coming immediately. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Nathan pulled into the gas station parking area, contacted emergency services, and prepared to assist in the delivery.
Under the guidance of 911 dispatchers and with support from staff at Mercy Hospital, he successfully facilitated the safe birth of his daughter, staying composed in an unexpected and high-pressure circumstance.
“It wasn’t too long,” Nathan recalled. “I pulled in there, parked the truck, hopped out, got on her side, was trying to look, see if any emergency services were on the way, on the phone with 911, still with a representative from Mercy talking to me about how to deliver the baby.”
“I delivered her at 3:16 a.m., and by 3:17 a.m., that’s when I saw the Strafford Police Department start coming in the parking lot.”
Despite the chaotic circumstances, both Jena and baby girl are reported to be in perfect health.
