Police Respond To Deer In Suffolk County Bank

Police responding to a reported burglary at a Suffolk County, New York bank discovered a distressed deer that had smashed through a bank window and torn through the lobby.

Officers were dispatched to the bank after an alarm was triggered Sunday, January 18, the Suffolk County Police Department said. The buck crashed through a large glass window and reportedly became trapped.

The department released video of the bloodied animal running around inside the bank, bashing into teller barriers and jumping onto desks.

The footage shows extensive damage inside the lobby, including overturned furniture, shattered glass, scattered papers and blood on the walls, as officers worked to protect both themselves and the deer.

Officers attempted to calm the buck before lassoing it and guiding it out of the building. Police said the deer was successfully moved out of the building without further injury and was later released back into the wild.

The Suffolk County Police Department publicly thanked the officers involved in the incredible rescue. No officers or members of the public were injured, police said. The bank sustained damage, but officers focused on safely removing the animal.

“Thanks to our officers, this deer was headed in the right direction,” the department wrote on social media.
