FBI Director Kash Patel Announced Multiple Individuals Were Arrested

In the morning of Friday, October 31, the FBI arrested several individuals in Michigan who had allegedly planning a terrorist attack for over the weekend.

This news was shared by FBI Director Kash Patel, who wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that “multiple subjects in Michigan” were arrested for “allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend.”

While little is known of the thwarted potential terrorist attack, CBS News learned that there were five suspects arrested, each between the ages of 16 and 20.

Further, Fox News reported the suspects allegedly had a connection to ISIS.

Patel says that more details will be shared soon.

He concluded his post, writing, “Thanks to the men and women of FBI and law enforcement everywhere standing guard 24/7.”

In a separate post, Patel added, “Thanks to swift action and coordination with our partners, a violent plot tied to international terrorism was disrupted.”

According to NBC News, the arrests took place in Dearborn and Inkster, both cities being outside of Detroit, Michigan.

Law enforcement sources told NBC News “there is no current threat to the public,” but provided additional detail on the arrests, with NBC News reporting:

“Four senior law enforcement officials familiar with the case said the FBI in Detroit apprehended a group of young individuals into custody today who were plotting some form of attack with a possible reference to Halloween. Those officials say the group has a nexus to some form of foreign extremism.”

Holidays Are Sometimes Targeted By Terrorists

Unfortunately, holidays, like Halloween, have become targets for terrorist activity in recent years.

On January 1, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana, 14 people were killed and 57 were injured when an ISIS-inspired man drove a truck toward pedestrians on the crowded Bourbon Street.

The assailant was killed by New Orleans Police.

In New York City on Halloween in 2017, a man drove a truck down a bike path in an ISIS-inspired attack, killing eight people and injuring 18 others.

According to the Department of Justice, the perpetrator of that attack was captured, and later convicted on 28 counts, with a prison sentence of “eight consecutive life sentences, two concurrent life sentences, and a consecutive sentence of 260 years in prison for carrying out a terrorist attack … in the name of the Islamic of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS).”
