Texas Floods Cause Historic Devastation

On July 4, catastrophic flooding ravaged through the Hill Country region of Texas, claiming at least 135 precious lives.

Up to 10 to 12 inches of torrential rains hit the area, driven partly by remnants of Tropical Storm Barry, triggering flash flood emergencies.

The Guadalupe River surged dramatically, rising approximately 22 to 29 feet in under two hours, sweeping away cabins, roads, and everything in its path.

Many country artists have come together to raise money for those impacted, including Miranda Lambert and Park McCollum, whose benefit show, “Band Together Texas,” raised nearly $8.5 million earlier this month.

Robert Earl Keen’s Benefit Raises Millions For Flood Victims

Robert Earl Keen, a Texas native, had a huge heart for helping those in need after the devastating July floods.

The country star, who was born in Houston but moved to Austin after graduating from Texas A&M, shared shortly after they occurred shared that his daughters attended Camp Mystic when they were young.

Keen shared a video outlining his efforts to help those affected by the floods. He vowed to donate his merchandise sales from his current tour to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.

In addition, he announced his plans to host a benefit concert to raise even more funds.

Keen’s “Applause for the Cause” benefit concert on Thursday (August 28) at Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels, Texas, has raised $3 million so far, according to an announcement made onstage by Arch “Beaver” Aplin, CEO of Buc-ee’s.

Buc-ee’s was the event’s presenting sponsor, and Aplin contributed $1 million on his own.

“Applause For The Cause” Was A Night To Remember

The star-studded event was a special night for everyone in attendance, with performances by artists such as Miranda Lambert, Jamey Johnson, Tyler Childers and Jack Ingram.

Keen closed the show with hits including “Dreadful Selfish Crime” and “The Road Goes On Forever.” Along with the performances, a drone show with the phrase “Texas strong” and a rising phoenix lighting up the night sky displayed for the crowd.
