Australia’s famous Irwin family has spoken out in support of their community following the tragic mass shooting at Bondi Beach on Sunday.

On December 14, a gathering marking the first night of Hannukkah was taking place at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, when gunfire broke out.

Officials say two gunmen were involved, and at least 15 people were killed, with 42 others injured.

According to CNN, the two suspects have been identified as a father and son. 50-year-old Sajid Akram was fatally shot by police at the scene, while his 24-year-old son, Naveed Akram, was taken to the hospital and is now in custody.

Following the tragic event, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held a press conference, where he spoke out on the attack, calling it “an act of pure evil, an act of antisemitism, an act of terrorism.”

“An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian, and every Australian, tonight, will be, like me, devastated,” Albanese added. “There is no place for this hate, violence, and terrorism in our nation.”

The attack has reignited conversations about tightening gun laws in Australia, a country that already has some of the strictest regulations in the world.

The Irwin Family Shares Their Support After Tragedy

As the community continues to grieve, people from around the world have shared their sentiments, including Australian native Robert Irwin.

He shared a photo on his Instagram of the sun setting over the iconic Sydney Opera House and added his message in the caption.

“I am absolutely heartbroken and devastated,” wrote. “My heart is with everyone who has been affected by Sunday’s horrible and tragic events.❤️”

Robert’s mother and the sole chairwoman of Australia Zoo, Terri Irwin, also shared a post showing her support for the people of Australia.

“My heart breaks for Bondi,” she began. “I know that Australians will stand together with courage and compassion, wrapped in the love shown by good people throughout the world. While the sun will never shine as bright, I promise it will shine again.”

As of right now, the mass shooting at Bondi Beach is still an ongoing investigation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Australia.
